Breaking in new 1400

I just finished unpacking and setting up a new 1400. It is breaking in now and SMELLS GREAT!

Quick question: What are the 2 black sheet metal angles that are packed on the top styrofoam blocks. Are they just there to stiffen the top of the box and guard the control panel or do they have some other function?

Packaging. They may come in handy on the next "round the house project" but they are just to stiffen the box. Great smoker in a solid package.

Kinda what I figured, but they sure have nicely ground welds and black powder coat finishes for box stiffeners! LOL!
