A mouse or mice invaded my Smokin Tex and now my family is grossed out. I want to clean it and start from scratch. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

If you want to start from scratch, remove the woodbox. Use a warm damp cloth along with just a misting of Simple Green. Don't use anything that is highly aromatic. Once the unit is dry, quarter a lemon and scour the inside with lemon wedges. This will remove any soap residue and also leave it squeeky clean. Do the woodbox while you are at it.

Re-season the smoker - buy a very fatty pork butt, toss 4-6 oz of oak, hickory or cherry. Set it on 225* and smoke until the internal temp reaches 195*-205*.

You should be good to go and have dinner as well!:D

In the meantime, buy some corks or something that will plug the vent holes to prevent this from happening again.

Good luck!:D

Black rubber plug available at Home Depot works great.

Spray simple green inside. Wipe it completely down. Then, to get rid of the simple green smell, put some wood in the box (twice the amount you usually use) and turn the temp up to 250 drgrees. Let cook/smoke for a couple hours....or until your family feels better!!!! That will do it. Also make sure the critters can't get back in.
